Public Notice: POUND NET NOTICES

REGULATION 4 VAC 20-25-10 ET SEQ., PERTAINING TO POUND NET SITING PUBLIC INTEREST REVIEW" requires that there be an opportunity for public comment on new pound net locations that are requested for licensing by commercial fishermen.  The following notices are posted by date; the comment period for each specific notice ends approximately 30 days from the date posted on this web site.   Please check with The Fisheries Division at (757) 247-2248 to determine when a specific comment period ends.  Send comments/inquiries within 30 days of the date a notice is posted to:  Marine Resources Commission, Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

Note:
There is a regulatory cap on the number of pound nets that are allowed in Chesapeake Bay and parts of Virginia's tidal rivers (REGULATION 4 VAC 20-600-10 ET SEQ, "LIMITS THE SALE OF POUND NET LICENSES"). The cap in the affected area is 161 pound nets. Click on the pound net cap report to see if any nets are likely available; nets available under cap is dependent on licenses sold, licenses authorized for sale, and net locations advertised for public review and will change with time. Use the pound net cap report as a guideline and consult with the Marine Police District Officer in your geographical area to decide whether to submit an application for a pound net license.

Note: notices below this point are beyond the 30 day comment period and are provided only as a reference of new pound net licensing activity.  Comments will not be accepted on the notices below.

November 7, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that Thomas D. Gaskins of Reedville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay.  The pound net is to be located at a new location approximately 2000 yards northeast of Gaskins Pond.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 52.1284 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.5532 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 52.1619 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.7990 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 1200 feet in length.

October 31, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that William R. Davenport, III of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Fleets Bay.  The pound net is to be located at a new location approximately 4,500 feet northeast of Green Daymarker #5 Antipoison Creek.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 38.34970 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 19.22905 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 38.27944 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 18.99757 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 1200 feet in length.

October 31, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that William R. Davenport, Jr. of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay.  The pound net is to be located at a new location approximately 1900 yards northeast of Bluff Point.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 41.6780 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 16.7110 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 41.6830 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 16.9600 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 1200 feet in length.

October 26, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that Lisa Bell of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate five pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  

The first net is to be located approximately 3,660 feet west-southwest of Picketts Harbor Road. The length of the net will be about 1,084 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.9000 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.7400 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.0000 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.5550 Minutes W.

The second net is be located approximately 3,850 feet southwest of Picketts Harbor Road. The length of the net will be about 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.6405 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.5958 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.7500 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.3900 Minutes W.

The third net is to be located approximately 5,050 feet west of Picketts Harbor Road. The length of the net will be about 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.0508 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.0906 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.1640 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.8880 Minutes W.

The fourth net is to be located approximately 6,100 feet west-northwest of Picketts Harbor Road. The length of the net will be about 1,165 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.2340 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.3500 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.3400 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.1500 Minutes W.

The fifth net is to be located approximately 5,190 feet southwest of Guys Point. The length of the net will be about 925 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.5840 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.3180 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.6710 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.1620 Minutes W.

October 26, 2012: 
Notice is hereby given that Arthur P. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate four pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:

The first net is to be located approximately 1,010 feet south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The length of the net will be about 1,082 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 05.2650 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.8520 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 05.3400 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.6500 Minutes W. 

The second net is to be located approximately 3,500 feet southwest of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge). The length of the net will be about 937 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.5630 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.9290 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.5100 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.7480 Minutes W. 

The third net is to be located approximately 3,000 feet west of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge). The length of the net will be about 935 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.7630 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.9390 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.6794 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.7770 Minutes W. 

The fourth net is to be located approximately 2,990 feet northwest of Pelican Pub @Sunset Beach. The length of the net will be about 810 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 08.4439 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.0110 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 08.4641 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.8464 Minutes W. 

October 25, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that William H. Haynie, of Reedville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay.  The pound net is to be located at a new location approximately 8,200 feet south of the southern tip of Dameron Marsh.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 45.3170 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 17.4920 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 45.2832 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 17.7374 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 1200 feet in length.

October 24, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that Francis D. Gaskins of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay. The pound net is to be located at a new location approximately 1,800 yards southeast of Gaskins Pond. The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 51.1666 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.9166 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 51.1666 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 14.1660 Minutes W. The pound net shall be approximately 1200 feet in length.

.August 16, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that Curtis A. Heath, Jr. of Townsend, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay.  The pound net is to be located at a new location approximately 970 feet northwest of Vortac Aircraft Navigation Aid.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 21.035 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.003 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 21.008 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.902 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 516 feet in length.

June 5, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that Edward M. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate three pound nets at new locations in the lower eastern Chesapeake Bay.

The first pound net is to be located approximately 5,000 feet east-southeast of Flashing Red CL "2C".  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.8369 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees  00.7104 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.8862 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.5753 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 721 feet in length. 

The second pound net is to be located approximately 1,500 feet west of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.7950 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.5934 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.7195 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.4932 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 669 feet in length. 

The third pound net is to be located 1,100 feet north of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 05.7604 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.9452 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 05.7759 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.8749 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 354 feet in length. 

January 20, 2012:  Notice is hereby given that William R. Davenport, III of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay.  The net is to be located, approximately 2,600 feet South-Southwest of #4 red buoy at the entrance to Dividing Creek in Northumberland County and approximately 2,000 feet due east of the shoreline and approximately 3,700 feet southeast of Jarvis Point.  The offshore end of this net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees  42.772 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees  18.0500005 Minutes W.  The inshore end of this net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees  42.6582347 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees  18.2535743 Minutes W.  The net shall be 1200 feet in length.
