Public Notice: Pertaining to the Hampton Roads and Bayside Eastern Shore Blue Crab Management Areas

NOTICE

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on a proposed amendment to Regulation 4 VAC 20-752-10 et seq. "Pertaining to the Hampton Roads and Bayside Eastern Shore Blue Crab Management Areas."

The proposed amendment would revise the northern boundary line of the Bayside Eastern Shore Blue Crab Management Area. The current boundary lines for this management area are described below.

In accordance with § 28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the adoption of the proposed amendments to this regulation will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 25, 1997 at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed, to Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, P. O. Box 756, Newport News, VA 23607. A copy of the proposed regulation may be reviewed at the Commission during Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 P.M. Purpose: The purpose of the proposed amendment to this regulation is to promote effective conservation of the blue crab resource within the Bayside Eastern Shore Blue Crab Management Area. The current definition of the Bayside Eastern Shore Blue Crab Management Area is as follows:

4 VAC 20-752-20 Blue crab management areas.

2. The Bayside Eastern Shore Blue Crab Management Area shall consist of all tidal waters within a line beginning at buoy R"14" on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Channel at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, thence continuing northwesterly along the eastern side of Chesapeake Channel following the buoy line to buoy R"22," thence continuing in a northeasterly direction and extending through Flashing Light "2" (SW of Old Plantation Creek) to the mean low water line, thence continuing southerly following the mean low water line to its intersection with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, thence following the north side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to buoy R"14," the point of beginning.
