Public Notice: Pertaining to Scup (Porgy)

NOTICE

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on a proposed amendment to Regulation 4 VAC 20-910-45, "Pertaining to Scup (Porgy)," described below.

The purpose of the amendment is to reduce the commercial harvest of scup and to comply with the provisions of the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Scup as required by the Atlantic Coastal Fisheries Cooperative Management Act.

In accordance with §28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the proposed amendment will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposal should be mailed to: Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, P. O. Box 756, Newport News, Virginia 23607. A copy of the proposed regulation may be reviewed at the Commission during Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Persons interested in obtaining a copy of the proposed regulation may call the Commission at (757) 247-2248.

Amendment to 4 VAC 20-910-45, "Possession Limits and Harvest Quotas."

The commercial quota for the harvest and landing of scup in Virginia from May 1 through October 31 shall be reduced from 3,167 pounds to 2,149 pounds.
