The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on emergency amendments to the regulation listed below. The emergency amendments were adopted by the Commission, under the authority of §28.2-210 of the Code of Virginia.
In accordance with §28.209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the adoption of the proposed emergency amendments, as part of the final regulation, will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 27, 202, at the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed to: Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607. A copy of the proposed amendments may be reviewed at the Commission during Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Persons interested in obtaining a copy of the proposed regulations may call the Commission offices at (757) 247-2248.
The Commission, by emergency action on July 11, 2002, adopted an amendment to Regulation 4 VAC 20-752-20 which modifies the northwest boundary of the Virginia Blue Crab Sanctuary near Smith Point. The new boundary line of the sanctuary is moved approximately 1.4 miles to the east in the area generally stretching from Smith Point to Great Wicomico Light. The Commission proposes to make the emergency amendment a permanent part of regulation 4 VAC 20-752-20. Copies of a chart describing the new and old Blue Crab Sanctuary boundary lines are available from the Commission.
Through another action on July 23, 2002, the Commission has extended the Shellfish Relay Season in the Hampton Roads Area from August 15, 2002 to August 30, 2002 by emergency regulation. This emergency regulation (4 VAC 20-562-10 et seq.) expires on August 31, 2002.
