Public Notice: License requirement for the recreational use of eel pots 2001

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on proposed amendments to the regulation listed below.

In accordance with §28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the adoption of the proposed amendments will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed to: Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607. A copy of the proposed regulations may be reviewed at the Commission during Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Persons interested in obtaining a copy of the proposed regulations may call the Commission offices at (757) 2447-2248.

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS: Regulation 4 VAC 20-670-10 et seq.

The Commission proposes to establish a license requirement for the recreational use of eel pots. The proposed cost of the license is $10.00 and each licensee shall be limited to two eel pots. The license shall be issued to an individual for his exclusive use and shall not be transferable. Each eel pot buoy shall be marked with the licensee's last four numbers of his or her social security number or driver's license number, preceded by the letter "R," designating the pot for recreational use.

The proposed effective date of the regulation is September 15, 2001.
