Public Notice: Recreational Summer Flounder Fishery 2002

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on emergency amendments to the regulation listed below. The emergency amendments were adopted by the Commission, under the authority of ?28.2-210 of the Code of Virginia.

In accordance with ?28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the adoption of the proposed emergency amendments as part of the final regulation will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed to: Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607. PROPOSED AMENDMENTS:

Recreational Summer Flounder Fishery

Regulation 4 VAC 20-620-10 et seq., "Pertaining to Summer Flounder"

The Commission proposes to reduce the recreational harvest of summer flounder in 2002 by 43.8 percent in order to achieve the reference period landings in 2002 and to maintain compliance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Summer Flounder. The Commission proposes to establish a 17 1/2-inch minimum size limit and an 8-summer flounder possession limit, with no additional closed fishing days during the remainder of 2002.

The effective date of this regulation, if approved by the Commission, will be June 19, 2002. These recreational management measures shall apply to all Virginia tidal waters.
