REGULATION 4 VAC 20-1130-10 Et Seq. and
Section 28.2-603.2 of the Code of Virginia provide an opportunity for public
comment on proposals to place protective shellfish enclosures on leased ground. The following notices are posted by date; the
comment period for each notice is as is specified below for each individual
siting notice. Please check with The Fisheries Division at
(757) 247-2248 to verify when a specific comment period ends.
Note: notices below this point are beyond the comment period and are provided
only as a reference of shellfish enclosure siting activity. Comments will not be
accepted on the notices below.
October 19, 2010: Bevans Oyster Company, Inc. of Kinsale has
notified the Virginia Marine Resources Commission of its intent to temporarily
place up to 250 protective aquaculture structures per acre for culturing oysters
on two oyster ground leases comprising a total of 87 acres, in the Yeocomico
River, between Lynch Point and Parkers Creek. A complete copy of the proposal

October 19, 2010: Cowart Seafood Corp. of Lottsburg has notified
the Virginia Marine Resources Commission of its intent to temporarily place up
to 250 protective aquaculture structures per acre for culturing oysters on 14.23
acres of leased ground in the Coan River, near the mouth of Kingscote Creek,

July 1, 2010: Mark Sanford of Cheriton has notified the Virginia
Marine Resources Commission of his intent to temporarily place up to 500
protective aquaculture structures for culturing oysters on 5 acres of his 127
acre leased ground in the Eastern Branch of the Lynnhaven River, southeast of
