Public Notice: 1997 The Virginia Recreational Fishing Advisory Board

The Virginia Recreational Fishing Advisory Board, an advisory committee to the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, invites public comment on the below listed projects which have been submitted for funding by the Virginia Saltwater Recreational Fishing Development Fund. This fund consists of revenue from the sale of Virginia saltwater recreational fishing licenses. A public hearing on the proposed projects has been scheduled for Monday, September 8, 1997 at 7:00 P.m. at the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News. Any person may present testimony. Written comments should be forwarded to Jack Travelstead, VMRC, P. O. Box 756, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

MULTI-YEAR PROJECTS FOR RENEWAL:

A. Striped Bass Restoration Program Evaluations and Stock Assessment; Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, $44,530.00; Year 5 of 6 

B. Virginia's American Shad Restoration Project; Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, $45,190.00

NEW PROJECTS:

C. The Relationship of Bioacoustics to Stock Assessment in Sciaenid Fishes; Virginia Commonwealth University, $75,494.00 

D. Purchase of Scales for Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament Weigh Stations; Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament at request of Recreational Fishing Advisory Board, $23,750.00

E. Mattaponi River Shad Restoration Project; Mattaponi Heritage Foundation, $29, 950.00

F. Virginia Marine Science Museum Fishing Van; Virginia Marine Science Museum Foundation, Inc. $34,743.00

G. City of Virginia Beach Chesapeake Bay Education Program Information Packet; Virginia Beach Department of Planning, $5,000.00
