NOTICE

Notice of Public Hearing Concerning Hard Clams

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) invites public comment on proposed amendments concerning hard clams. Proposed amendments to VMRC Regulation 4 VAC 20-560-10 et seq., "Pertaining to Shellfish Management Areas", are necessary conservation measures to protect and promote the hard clam resource within the designated Newport News Shellfish Management Area. Several options are being proposed by Industry members and VMRC Staff regarding the restrictions for time of day, catch limits, season length, and maximum/minimum cull sizes within the Newport News Management Area.

In accordance with §28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on these proposals will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, November 23, 1998 at the office of the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia.
