Spadefish State Record Tied

For Immediate Release
June 22, 2007

A 14-pound spadefish caught on June 7th by Mark Ottarson of North, VA has been certified as tying the Virginia state record by the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament.

Ottarson caught his fish while fishing at Wolf Trap Light in the Chesapeake Bay with Roane Booker on his private boat the Ace of Spades. The spadefish, which measured almost 24 inches in length and had a girth of 26 inches, was fooled by a piece of clam.

Ottarson will share the state record with Austin Edwards of Powhatan, VA for the 14-pounder he caught June 17, 2006 at the Cell in the Chesapeake Bay.
